Once more into the void |5:42 PM|
I'm getting ready for the trip. I have to go to the grocery store, pick up extra food for my cat, as well as "fiddle faddle" for my own voyage. I'm going to shower, check my packing job, give the car a once over and then...off I go.

It's a good thing it'll be nightime the majority of the drive down there. When the whole world vanishes past your headlights, when it's just your car and the void, it's easier to turn inward. I'll be able to lose myself in my thoughts, and hopefully stop noticing the hours tick by.
I'll say my brief goodbyes to a couple people. It's just a weekend, but it's the thought that counts.

I also have to stop by Vorpal's place. I'm picking up his luggage for him, so he just has to take a carry on bag. The bastard is going to be on a plane less than 2 hours. He'll be taking the first shift on the drive back, I think.

How much of the trip is the drive there?

Catapulted drive |10:11 AM|
Vorpal isn't coming on the first leg of trip I'm taking to Phoenix. He'll be arriving at a later time, but it's just me in the car.

For 17 hours.

I give myself about even odds of mentally surviving the trip out there. The last time I did this drive, I had an intensely cool person with me. Zusty made one of the best possible road trip companions, and I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it there without her. Or at least, someone's help.

With that much time to myself, I wonder if I'll come up with any interesting ideas. I'll surely need to get a good night's sleep tonight.

Superstition |3:42 AM|
I attended a wedding this past Saturday. If anyone is curious about what it looked like, the pictures are in cheapo gallery 3.*
During the reception, there was the traditional garter toss. The single males were lined up and the groom threw the garter towards us, over his back. The men in this group were acting as though the garter itself was radioactive. They cowered like mice in a trap factory, thinking that the moment they touched the thrown undergarment, that a ring would be on their finger. "There's a ring on my finger my family is coming into town, I've got this tux on and I don't know who I'm marrying!". I ended up being the guy who picked the garter off the ground, since I'm immune to such superstitions. Now I've got a free souvenir.

PortalStar commented on my lack of superstitions. I refused to throw salt over my shoulder after spilling it, I'm not worried about suddenly being married, I pick coins off the ground tails-side down or not, it just doesn't faze me. I didn't even notice other people's continuation to be frightened of such things until my own total lack of concern on the matter was pointed out to me by Star.

As I may have noted down here before, I don't wish people good luck, most of the time. I'll say it when I think they'll appreciate it, but most of the time I'll stick to "I hope it works out" or "Hope you get the best possible outcome.". This is a deliberate change over the last couple years, and I don't have to try nearly as hard anymore to avoid saying "good luck". It all ties in to my near-desperate desire to control my own fate.

*This image needs some explanation. At a local restaurant, the upper bar is visible from the eating area, and someone in the group with whom I was eating noticed a woman's ass hanging out above us. Her low rider jeans and thong was displaying her tuckus to the entire restaurant. Only after the picture was taken did someone let her know, and she tied a jacket around her lower body. I headed up and bought their table drinks, though since I did it through the proxy of the waiter I never found out their reaction. A note was delivered with the booze (Written by another person in my party, since my handwriting sucks) "Sorry if we embarrassed you, we were just impressed. Drink these and be merry").

Galleries. Wooo HOO! |12:06 AM|
Added a new link to the top there, it's marked "Recon" and should be a list of just odd photos I've taken on my digital camera. Most of the time the pictures are pretty self explanatory, but if I think I need to, I'll comment on what they are.

Also, I added audio and re-compressed the movie of me building a computer. It does require the latest Divx codec.
