The Project |10:06 PM|
The San Antonio Project is over. So is my job. With any luck, I'll never have to work full time I/T again.
Part time? Fantastic. School? That's the plan. Anyhow, I want to make a couple of big, documentary style posts on my time at that job. If I've been bitching at you regularly, you already know most of this.

First off is an overview. My former employer was, and as of this writing still is, building a rather massive hotel in San Antonio, about 80 miles from Austin.
Due to a number of factors, such as a monsoon season like Summer, they fell behind in pouring concrete. If they missed the opening date in early February, the company was going to get fined out the wazoo. I had been visiting on a weekly basis to take care of small things, broken computers, etc. There were a couple of side projects that needed attending, but I'll get to that in a second.

It became clear that any delay had to be avoided at nearly any cost, so vital was hitting that early February date.

My boss, who was one of the more excellent managers I've worked under, asked me if I could go and cover that site full time. I'd be put up in a hotel, gas covering a trip back to Austin for the weekends, a daily stipend for food, etc. Just fix it, make sure it works, and occasionally put out the odd technical fire.

Thus began what I called my "Exile", but was more like, "Brendan's boring weekdays, interrupted by moments of sheer terror, followed by chemical burns"

I'll post in reverse order, so they show up properly on these pages.
